Thanks for the information regarding the rebuilding of the XM-12's into
FM-10's. The short life of these cars (they were off the roster by 1937) came
up for discussion a while ago, and now we know why!
Just in passing, the cars were not recorded in the May 1926 ORER, and by April
1927 only 64 were shown. This increased to 92 by the February 1928 ORER and
stayed at that level until 1930 when they dropped back to 91. Given the number
spread of 89500-89594 originally shown in 1927, I presume the original
intention was to fill all the numbers.
As regards the XM-12's 101417-101516, there were 95 of them shown in the May
1925 issue (which ties in with the proposed number spread), dropping to 94 in
January 1926 and 92 in May 1926. In April 1927 (when 64 FM-10's were shown)
there were 28 XM-12's (combined total of 92).
This would suggest that whilst the conversion was documented in 1925, the
actual conversion didn't take place until 1926-7.
