Greg,
What do you mean by close?
Q didn't have 50' cars. 40", 45' and 53' were the main ones used in the early
days.
It is a flat car and it has trailers and that is close enough for the HO
trainset market that Athearn Ready to Roll cars are marketed towards.
The Athearn trailers although nicely painted are lacking in detail as they were
made from molds made in the dawn of great age of plastic. I don't believe they
are a model of any specific trailer
The correct trailers would be the 28ft Freuhauf from Walker Model Services in
pewter which may be out of production. I ve seen them in resin by On-Trak
p.795 Walthers and use the Micro scale decal set for tha Q tractor trailers. A
close red would be a santa Fe Red and not a Chinese Red. The pewter trailers
will be a good, heavy flatcar load and the resin pigs will be easier to build.
The earlier piggy backs had lots of tiedown chains and blocks that were RR
specific and you are going to have to hunt down that Q foto yourself. The only
thing I have in my stash is a pamphlet the Burlington produced showing the
State of the Art in the '60s.
There are some more modern traillers and International and GMC tractors parked
by Freight House Five. In a few annual reports, I have, there are tractor
trailer images to be found as well..
A good source of tractors are Sheepscot, Sylvan and Micro Metals but don't
trust the MM's paint jobs as 100% accurate either.
The Sylvan kits are resin with etched mirrors, rubber tires and vacuformed
windows. They're great kits but plan on spending some time on them.
Check out thier web site or see them at Napervile,RPM show.
Walthers had a Pennsy piggy back flatcar listed about 10 years ago and may be
lurking in the dark recesses of that forgotten hobby shop but it was a 60's era
car.
I could go on but I'm not sure how much time, research and obviously money you
are going to invest.
I noticed that there haven't been a flood of e mails on this subject so I
wonder how much data there is on these cars.
Well see if you can turn up anything at the Dubuque meet, You'd be supprised.

  Hi to the Group,

I hope this question hasn't been asked previously but here goes.
Is the new Athearn 50'flat car with 25'trailers anywhere close to
  being prototypical?
Also I is there a Burlington Bulletin or similar where I can get more
info on TOFC service on the CB&Q?

  Thanx,
  Greg
