One other excellent source for 4978 is the WB Video "Last Steamers of the 
Colorado & Southern," produced in 1986 but still available, I believe.   One of 
the opening scenes, filmed by Dave Gross, is in Rice Yards in October 1958, 
showing 4978 shortly after it was leased to the C&S after two diesel wrecks in 
1958.   One scene shows it next to C&S 807.   807's smokebox is a bright silver 
color, but 4978's is a much darker graphite color.   I can't ensure that the 
colors are right on after all these years, but the difference between C&S and 
CB&Q smokeboxes is very discernable.   This video would be a very good 
reference for you.
