Good money, but prepare to work every 8 hours or so, until you're ready to
drop.  With a three hour call, you'll get only five hours off from the time
you mark off until you're called again.  The extra board is tough, and you
haven't lived until you have had to work two yard jobs in one day at -10F.
Once you finally own a job, things get better, especially if you own a road
job, and you might get a chance at engineer training.  If set up as
engineer, you go back to the extra board again and the quick turnarounds.
Depending on how seniority goes where you're assigned, you could be on the
spare board for years or possibly hold a job soon.  Assuming you are over
30, you would have to work to (I think) 67 or 68 to get full RR pension,
which pays well.  You could go at age 60 if you had your thirty years in by
then.  If you're really still interested, apply soon, as seniority is
everything on the RR; the more you have the happier you'll be.  Don't know
anything about the BNSF tests.  The old test used to be "does your father
work here?", but its not that bad anymore.
