Subject: [CBQ] re: last unit in Q paint
The last unit mentioned, #1960, was in semi-captive service @ So.
Sioux City, NE which may be why it was the last to get BN green. Due
to the wt restriction on the CMStP&O (C&NW) bridge that Q/BN had
rights over, units were kept there to ferry trains at this long time
Q/GN gateway (where traffic to & from KC/Omaha off GN would go from Q
to GN & vice-a-versa). I took a lot of pics of 1960 as was near my
in-laws; little did I know it would the last! To be technical
though, I believe one of Q's ex-44 tonners leased/sold to Koppers @
Galesburg for the tie-treating plant was in Q paint even later as I
have slides of it taken on visits to G'burg in the 70's. Will have
to dig them out.
PS - BN built their own bridge between So. Sioux & Sioux City, a real
beauty but the old Omaha one was a classic, kind of like the old
Q/B&MR @ Plattsmouth. GErald
