Hi all,

I just joined the group in the hope that anyone here might be able to help me
with the following:

For the 1947 version of the Empire Builder the Great Northern bought six
1-2-Buffet-Lounge-Observation cars numbered 1190-1194 and named them in the
'River' series. One of these cars was actually owned by the CB&Q; 1194 'Marias
River'. In 1955, with the introduction of the Great Domes on the Empire
Builder, these cars were rebuilt as 6-1-4-Lounge-Observation cars and renamed
in the 'Coulee' series. CB&Q 1194 was also rebuilt and now named 'Trail
Coulee'. When the GN took the observation cars off the Empire Builder it had
all its 'Coulee' cars rebuilt by Pullman into 68 seat coaches and numbered them
1300-1303 (in 1967-68). The cars lost their round-ends in the process.

Now what happened to the CB&Q car? Most probably it didn't get converted into a
coach like the GN owned ones and ventured on as an observation car. The BN
passenger car roster in the 1972 BN Annual does not list this car, indicating
that it did not end up in the BN merger which is very well possible as many
other former CB&Q owned 'GN' cars didn't. The 1972 Amtrak Car Spotter book does
not list the car either (although it is possible that 1194 might have joined
Amtrak at a later date).

Does anyone know what ever happened to CB&Q 1194 'Trail Coulee'? Where did she
end up and is she still around?

Thanks in advance,

Ben Ringnalda
