IIRC the Burlington purchased several ex C&NW smoothside streamline
coaches. I'm curious as to why these were purchased considering
that passenger service was already shrinking and extra passenger
equipment would seemingly have been contra-indicated. Was it a
problem with retiring older heavyweight equipment used on secondary
trains from the pool or a cost factor as opposed to repairing some
of the older Budd equipment? What factors were involved in this
decision?
