The Kansas City Zephyr lasted until April 10, 1968 as a thru train to Kansas
City, Missouri. It then partially survived a local between Chicago and West
Quincy, Missouri.
The American Royal Zephyr operated until "Amtrak Day" on an overnight
schedule between Chicago and Kansas City, however service was downgraded to a
coach
only status during the last couple of years.
