It's official, the Illinois Railnet took over the operation of the Mt.
Morris branch line serving the Quebecor World Printing Plant, formerly Kable
printing, today Saturday Oct. 9, 04. The railnet made their first trip to
Mt. Morris about 3:15pm with only a couple of cars. There were also about 8
or 9 loaded cars on the siding waiting to be spotted today that BNSF
delivered yesterday. Total capacity inside the plant is usually 11 cars.
BNSF has been switching on M-W-F for some time with an ocassional extra
switch. The Railnet is scheduled to switch 5-6 days a week which may help
the plant operation if they can handle the extra unloading on time. The
plant also ships outbound about 6 carloads of waste paper per week
Railnet is leasing a couple Locos from the BNSF until they get their engines
for this job serviced and is expected in just a couple weeks. The Railnet
will also be switching both sand plants in Oregon and will be switching from
Oregon for the time being but they expect to eventually switch out of Oregon
and Flag Center since this is where their Rockford job begins.
