As Charlie answered, the BE1's (the converted troop kitchens) were used by
the Q to haul storage mail and express. They were most commonly seen at the
head
end of passenger trains. Since the Q bought three hundred of them, they
could be seen all over the country's rail system. Their appearance changed
over
time. Some changes include plating over the windows, lettering style change,
truck changes, and on some, the addition of ladders and roofwalks. If you let
