Also, with carbon on both sides all copies were very legible. If you've every
tried making 5 copies using regular single-sided carbon paper you know that the
writing on the 5th copy could be very dim. If there were ever any disputes
concerning train orders you want to make sure all copies are legible and read
the same. Also, railroad management knew that the use of double-sided carbons
would result in agent/operators having perpetually dirty black hands leaving
their fingerprints on everything so that the user of that half pint hidden in
the stationary cabinet could be identified. Of course, I never ever had that
problem. Now want was that Rule number, 8?

The train order pages were very thin light colored paper. The carbons
were a very heavy black. The text could be read whether it was on the
front or back of the page. Looked the same. The advantage is that each
carbon actually produced two copies, a front and a back.
That is why some people call them "flimsies".
