[BRHSlist] North Mo RR and H&StJ Questions

I have a friend who is an author.  She is writing a
story where a character takes a trip from St. Louis to
St. Joseph in 1861.  I assume this would mean taking
the North Missouri to Macon then the H&StJ to St Joe. 
Was this possible?  Also does anyone know where I can
get info on stage lines of that day?
