RE: Sour milk.
There was nothing to keep the milk from going sour...and it did...My dad was
carrying a 5 gallon can one hot summer day and the lid blew off...He was sour
milk from head to foot.
About the best help there was was to keep the milk in the shade on the
station platform and in a few instances the agent was authorized to buy a
small amount of ice to put in the lids...See various articles in Robert
Brown's books.
Apparently the sourness was not a deterent to the use of the cream at the
creamery.
Sometime said creameries would find a dead rat or mouse in the
can...Hopefully this stuff was dumped.
