According to the passenger timetables the Ak-Sar-Ben Zephyr afforded
passengers two 10-6 sleepers, the dining/lounge car and Reclining Seat Chair
Cars.

In the time frame you were interested in, the cars for the American Royal
Zephyr were combined with the Aksarben Zephyr between Chicago and Galesburg.
As Dave mentioned, there was a Chicago to Kansas City 10-6 Pullman, and a
chair-coach (or coaches). Passengers had access to the Aksarben Zephyr
Diner-Lounge between Chicago and Galesburg before the trains split. Perhaps
someone has more detailed information as to the number and type of head end
equipment (i.e. mail storage or baggage cars) for that era of operation.
Sadly, the Chicago to St. Joseph cars were discontinued by that time. You
had the choice of making your way from Kansas City Union Station to the
Greyhound Terminal to catch a bus, or wait for the next available KC - Omaha
train to reach St. Joseph.
