The mention in a recent post by Cy Svobodny about the tunnels in
Wisconsin on the Milw and C&NW got me to thinking. Where, if
anywhere, did the Q run through tunnels on Lines East, particularly
Illinois, Wisconsin, or Minnesota? Reason: On my layout I have a
rather conspicuous cutoff to staging that I originally designed to be
hidden inside a tunnel (just haven't gotten the mountain built yet).
Although I don't really didn't have a geographical area in mind when
I started my layout, I am leaning toward the Illinois, Wisconsin,
Minnesota area so I can: 1) run my coal train with 3-4 SD7's from
Illinois coal area to a powerplant up north (ala the Wisconsin Power
unit trains); 2) interchange with C&NW and/or Milw so I can run some
Baldwins, Alcos, and F-M's on interchange and transfers. My time era
is 1967-68.
I realize I certainly have modeler's freedom here, but the mention of
the tunnels in Wisconsin got me to thinking.
