Helvetica couldn't have been the pre-1958 font. It wasn't designed until 1961.
Are you asking about the font used on freight cars?
By the way, did your note suggest anything about the serif font used by
BREX/FGEX/WFEX in the 40's and 50's? I'm still trying to find a copy of that
font, or tracings or other records so that a computerized font can be developed.
