The donation of the steam drawings was the culmination of a lot of
hard work by several members of UPHS. The Society had been allowed
to hold the drawings for scanning. Meanwhile a committee had been
seeking an archival site for the various holdings the Society had
acquired or will acquire. The Society wanted to have the drawings
properly preserved (you should see the deterioration of many of them)
in a climate controlled environment. The archival agreement also
allows UPHS members to donate (or will) their collections to the
Society to be preserved for future generations to see and access.
This is just a quick thumbnail, there's a lot more going on with the
UPHS archive committee. It's a very involved, on-going project.
As far as the old Carnegie Library in Council Bluffs - it will be
home to the UPRR's corporate museum. UP is one of the few RR's that
has their own museum as part of the corporation. Don Snoddy, et.al.
do a great job supporting research and answering questions from the
public. They currently hold many artifacts and papers, as well as
UP's historical photo collection. The UPHS and UP Museum work in
cooperation to preserve the company's history.
Hope this helps clear things up a little.
