As one who spent some time in Savanna as a result of the disrupted service on
BNSF I can offer a few valid reasons why the RR would have declined a request
to operate Amtrak trains over the Aurora and LaCrosse subs.

Safety would be a consideration. The roadbed was subjected to a constant
soaking and wave action which raises the potential for a mishap. Derailing a
freight train is serious but derailing an occupied passenger train is something
no one wants to risk. Also, the incredible congestion caused by having portions
of both main tracks out of service would have created intolerable delays to the
service (amtrak347 should have a comment about this statement).

The thought of a "return" of no. 31 to the C&I is interesting though.

To Whom It May Concern:

I am a fan, living in the Chicago Area. MY QUESTION to ANY OF YOUR MEMBERS
IS, as we ALL know, Amtrak's "Empire Builder," Train Nos. 7-27, and 8-28,
are being turned back, at the Twin Cities, due to the former Milwaukee Road
Route, being "under water," due to the Mississippi River Flooding. Do ANY
of
your members know, if the former Burlington Route trackage, is ALSO under
water, say like up around the Savannah, Prairie Du Chien, La Crosse Area?
If
NOT, why can't the "Empire Builder," be rerouted over it's ORIGINAL ROUTING,
between Chicago and the Twin Cities?

If ANY of your members "might know," my E-Mail Address is geraldspc@a...

ANY information would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thank You, Very KINDLY.

Jerry
