Rick, regarding block signals between Omaha and Lincoln, virtually
all of the old ground mount signals date from CB&Q days. The
searchlights may not be original equipment, but they have been around
a long time.

of these signal bridges were gone, and I would bet that the remainder
of the Q bridges are living on borrowed time.
The Q signal bridges are getting old, and they are made up of small
angles, which are starting to rust and get weak at joints. They are
more dangerous to climb than ground-mount signals. Where there are 2
tracks or less, ground mount signals can be substituted since left-
hand signals are accepted. And when the signal is replaced, you will
probably find that the searchlight mechanism is replaced with a 3
color light. The searchlights are also expensive to maintain, and
are sometimes destroyed if they are vandalized.
