Steve,
Great answer on the Silver Rapids. One minor correction, though. The PRR
bought a bunch of 10-6 sleepers from Pullman-Standard and a few from ACF, but
the Silver Rapids was the only Budd built PRR 10-6 sleeper. It was bought
specifically to match the other CZ cars and ended up as a one-of-a-kind after
the service was over. The PRR had a very close relationship with PS, just as
the Q had with Budd, and the majority of their cars came from PS. Amazingly,
the PRR did buy other cars from Budd in stainless steel, but except for a few
special cases, they painted the cars in Tuscan Red after etching the surface
chemically!
The whole transcontinental sleeper story is very interesting and many
"foreign" road sleepers turned up in the strangest places!
