The work was done by "Shop Services, Inc.", a company established by Stan
Mathews to take advantage of the plant necessary to maintain the Midwest
Central's own engines. Besides rebuilding a number of privately owned
locomotives like Michael's (and doing cosmetic restoration on CB&Q 710 for
the City of Lincoln, NE), Shop Services rebuilt Westinghouse air compressors
and manufactured hard-to-find steam supplies such as piston rod packing. It
went out of business several years ago.

At present, the active roster consists of three locomotives. Former Surry
Sussex & Southampton #6 is an 1891 Baldwin 2-6-0. Henschel #16 is a
well-tank 0-4-0 built in 1952 and used in a dockyard in Kiel, Germany. West
Side Lumber #9 is a three-truck Shay.

In addition, former New Berlin & Winfield #2, Baldwin 1906 2-6-0, is torn
down awaiting financing for a complete rebuild (including new boiler and
frame . . . estimated at $250,000).
