Excursion engine crews were pool turns or extra list employees meaning that no
special assignments were made for these trips. If a crew was "first out" at
call time they got the job.

Interesting. I wonder if those senior personnel regarded it as an
award? I mean, climbing out of a nice clean diesel to go smoke it up on a
Sunday morning? ;)
