Here is some data that will be helpful for the modelers regarding
headlights and number plates. As always, the details are a function of
date and location. Within the next couple of weeks, I should be able to
provide headlight and number plate details for each engine #540-549.

1.      #540 - In June 1954 it was out of service at Congress Park. It had a
round number plate on front of smoke box. It had new Pyle headlight on
smoke box. Still had cuckoo clock headlight on tender. "Steam Locos of
the Burlington" says it was sold for scrap in 4-54. My photo obviously
is of #540 as it ended service.

2       #542 - In Sept 1937 it was at Clyde with a number plate and cuckoo
clock headlight. Cuckoo clock headlight on tender.

3.      #543 - In December 1951 it was at Centralia (see CB&Q In Color Vol 1,
page 94). It had new Pyle headlight, but no number plate. Also had Pyle
headlight on tender.

4.      #544 - Stored at Centralia in September 1952 (see Steam Locos of the
Burlington, page 64). It had number plate and Pyle headlight. Cuckoo
clock light on tender.

5.      #545 - Was in Minneapolis in Sept 1937. No number plate and original
cuckoo clock headlight. In August 1950 it was at W. Quincy. Same
details. Information I have indicates #545 never got a number plate and
kept cuckoo clock healight.

6.      #548 - Was at Centralia in Oct 1937 (see Steam Locos of the
Burlington, page 65). It has a number plate and cuckoo clock headlight. 
Cuckoo clock headlight on tender.

7.      #549 - Also in Centralia in 1950 (see CB&Q In Color Vol 1, page 94). 
It had a number plate and original cuckoo clock headlight. Also had
cuckoo clock light on tender. But by September 1955 it had a Pyle
headlight and a Pyle headlight on tender (see Burlington Route Steam
Finale by Lloyd Stagner, page 36). Somewhat intriguing that the Q
changed the lights on #549 between 1950 and 1955 on a steam swithcer was
was obviously going to be retired soon. 

I will provide more data later. This should help the modelers get
started..
