Louis and all,

I like Burton recall the Burro cranes parked behind the Aurora Freight House at Spring and Broadway as well as “behind” the Aurora tower. My memory is a light yellow color.

The photo that Louis shared from RRpictures looks to me to be a faded orange burro.

My memory could be off on the shade of yellow and maybe this photo is yellow but I’m sharing what I think I recall  and see in this photo.

Rich - Here a link to an image taken by Chuck Zeiler of YELLOW Burro crane 1442 in July 1963.  The MOW flat car coupled to it is orange:

Rich - I'll go along with what Rupert says.  My memory isn't the clearest anymore as I approach my 79th year, but I grew-up on the Q as an operating official's son.  My memory is that the Burrow cranes were a light yellow, but it could've been a really sun faded orange.  As frugal as the Q was, no piece of equipment got repainted from its original colors unless it was rusting..... Then, the repainting was done at the time the equipment needed repairs - Louis

Earlier in the conversation, Jim Miller noted that smaller cranes were painted yellow.  Rupert Gamlen followed up with a search of 1949 advertisements that shows the cranes seemed to be delivered in a lighter scheme that looked to be yellow.  The question is, would the Q, upon receiving a new piece of equipment in a different color, repaint it immediately, or would they wait until it needed repainting before painting it into the company service color?  There is no question that these were painted in the company service orange in the '60's, but I think for 1950 I might be safe painting it in yellow.

I continue to look for color pictures in the '50's, but so far have had no luck.

Thanks for all the comments.

A lot of smaller cranes were actually yellow.
