Thread-topic: [CBQ] Burro Model 30 Crane Color

I would think hand cars were mostly retired by 1953, but what color were they before 1949 – mineral red or black? The grayscale photos suggest unpainted wood decks, so if that’s true, the painted surfaces would the frame and wheels. I don’t know what color the mechanical parts would be. So far, nobody has offered a response to my post yesterday.

Rich’s question about the Burro raised the question of color for the Burlington, IA crane, CB&Q 210723, used to fill the coal pocket – Black or Mineral Red?

Rich:

Best I can do are these two shots of C&S Burro cranes, one in 1957, the other in 1962, both in orange, as were all the Q Burro cranes I ever saw.  As to whether one would have been painted orange in 1950, I have no idea, and I don't know when any of the Burro cranes were built, so I don't know what color they wore when delivered, though I'm sure it was orange after 1949.  But if one was orange in 1950 it would obviously be a recent purchase or repaint, still in fresh paint.
