You got it ALL together - it was the guys who worked for the RR's which made
each entity UNIQUE.
Take for example the 1970's and you were working in the law department of the
former "SANTA Fe" at The Railway Exchange Building. You could not wait for
all of the morning meetings to end so that Gene, the general counsel for the
entire corporation would start to unwind his "true to life stories" of what
really
went on at The Neurinburg War Crime Trials in1946.
There were two young captians assigned to The AG Section who were respons-
ible for planning, organizating and preparing the senior offices in the
presentations
of their arguments for the defense.
One would go on to become the head of the legal department of The Atchinson,
Topeka and Santa Fe Railway Company, who would later find aid and comfort in
merging with a parent of "The Q", i.e., "BN", while the other would remaind in
government becoming the chief justice of The United States Surpreme Court.
There are reasons why The "SANTA Fe" was so squeeky clean and than after
the "BNSF" merger why the former "BURLINGTON" cleaned up its house.

Gentlemen,
Never having worked for the railroad, let alone the CB&Q, I for one am very
interested in these stories and exchanges. The history of the railroad is far
more than photos of equipment for me. It includes the understanding of the jobs
of the employees who made the railroad function daily and how they interacted
with eachother. Granted, I may have only come to this realization in the past
ten years or so, but that's where I'm at now. Those that aren't interested can
just scan the entry and decide if they want to read it in full or click to the
next entry. I for one enjoy these recollections.
