Hello:
I was wondering if you had any information detailing what the original
interior color scheme of the CB&Q "Silver Dome" may have been. Perhaps an
article from "Railroad Age" or "Trains Magazine" that may have covered the
"Silver Dome's" debut on the "Exposition Flyer" in July of 1945? I have
already ordered a copy of your Bulletin #42 from Mr. Richard Morgan-Fine and
am anxiously awaiting it's arrival. I just thought that possibly you may
also have something from the above mentioned magazines in your archives.
The reason that I am asking, is because the "Mad River & NKP Railroad
Museum" in Bellevue, Ohio (of which I have recently become a member) has the
"Silver Dome" in its collection and is attempting to restore the car to its
original specifications. I thought that maybe I would try to help locate
some information on the interior details and color scheme as they are having
a difficult time coming up with reliable information. I believe that they
are going to attempt to contact the Burlington directly to see if they still
have any information. The museum has a couple of black and white interior
pictures but of course, that doesn't help as far as authenticating color
goes. Thus, I thought that possibly you may also have a magazine article or
two about the debut of the car. I know that "Railroad Age" articles in
particular, are very detailed about such things. At any rate, I want to
thank you very much for your kind patience and attention. Any help at all
would be very greatly appreciated.
