I see in the BRHS that there were a number of GP7/9s and SD7/9's with steam generators. I have never seen these type of units in passenger service. Can some confirm that this is accurate and what the

The Q used some GP7's in passenger service. Maybe 241 - 242? They used them starting in 1951. I know there are some pictures in Mike Spoors volumes 1 and 2. Rich G In a message dated 4/29/2010 6:51:0

Geeps with steam generators were the first replacements for steam on the "Dinkeys" out of Chicago. My memory seems to recall them as being used there first then to freight service when the E-units to

I was surprised to learn that SD's were used in commuter/suburban service on the CNW.  Not so much now on the Q.  The SP and Reading also did the same.  Apparently they were well suited for the appli

Trains #29 & #30 (Denver/Billings) occasionally got SD-9's if they were short of E-units, and so did #31 & #32 between Alliance and Casper. I saw #30 at Fromberg, Mt. being pulled by a Blackbird SD-9

Geeps would have seen very limited usage on Dinkeys..... the steam generator was not the problem.... electricity for the car lighting was. C&NW had special generators on their commuter GPs and SDs...
