Ed, Thanks for your information on the SD45 fans and fan bases. I have searched the two reference books you mentioned but have been unable to find any photos that allow me to see the top of the fans.

Dale, This time I dug out the books, there is an overhead photo of a group of the Q's SD45's taken at EMD's plant in LaGrange on 1/20/1969 on page 12 of Dorin's "Everywhere West The Burlington Route"
