- Was the original poster really talking about "Builders Plates" or was the real subject the "Model Designation Plates" (FT, F2, F3, F5, F7, E5, E7, E8, E9, etc.) that the Q specified to be included on

- During the CB&Q era, my understanding is that EMD placed a builders plate on each diesel locomotive. For the earlt FT ABBA and F# ABA sets that were permanently coupled together, were separate plates
