Paul, I don't know if they weathered well or not, according to the Societies data sheet on triple hoppers they started painting the cars black in 1962 to represent their assignment to coal service. I

Paul, If you have a copy of the 2008 Walthers catalog, take a look at page 205. Color shot of a Chinese Red car taken by George Speir around 1970. It's almost a light shade of orange or faded boxcar

Paul, I can say that by 1965 the 3-bays were either red or black. By that time mineral color 3-bays were gone. The 1950 to 1964 was a change what took all the mineral color as there was a shop change

Paul, Others may chime in, but the two types of handbrakes I've seen are Miner and Ajax.From photos it seems like the earlier 1948-53 cars were Miner eaquipped, while the later 1960-61 cars were Ajax
