- I have an Athearn 2-8-2 and model the C&S. Since there seems to be more "late 50's" references to 4978 than the original C&S 800 series maybe 4978 would be a better choice. Has anyone made this conve

- Lots of work to make 4978 from a USRA, though the basic running gear would be usable. Pretty much a scratchbuilding project. Easier to work some overtime and buy a brass model. At least the real 4978

- A friend in my operating group has an Athern 2-8-2. Wouldn't pull much. He put a USRA Cary boiler on the loco and it added a lot of traction. This didn't make an O1a out of it, but it sure changed it
