Could it been a conncetion with an eastern road. Peoria, IL has been used by many railroads to get around Chicago and save a day in transit times.(It is what keep TPW around for so many years) Will D

Leo/Will, There was a fair number of meat and produce shippers that routed traffic thru Peoria, some via the TP&W and others directly to the NKP, P&E, PRR or whatever. What I question in the original

Leo, I don't know of the Pacific Fruit Express operations in particular, but I do know that perishables and meat especially were sent through to Peoria on the Q. In the recently republished Q freight

Depends on how good the Q traffic solicitor was. Think about the MN&S..there was no logical reason for traffic from the Pacific NW to move via that line, yet they seemed to be involved in every move.
