The longest was the so-called "Double Zephyr".    As the name implies, it was 2 
CZs, run as two trains front to back (as opposed to the switching to allow all 
coaches, both diners, sleepers, etc. together).

It was caused by weather events that forced one to detour via the AT&SF through 
Bakersfield, then up the Pedro to SLC, where, due to the time spent on the 
detour, the next day's train caught up to it by running "normal. " The decision 
was made to combine both trains and run it East.  If interested in the CZ, the 
Pacific News had the article/interview with WP PTM.  Lots of interesting 
information in it.  Mine is buried at the moment...
