Every year at the Naperville RPM, I talk to the Rapido rep about possibly doing the E8 in black stripes, and mention the units that never received the plated panels up to BN (what could be easier from a manufacturing perspective.)  They always say what a great idea and they're working on it.  You can see the results.

I understand the market for the red stripes is probably much larger as us transition-era modelers fade away, so it's hard to argue economics .  Rapido does a superb job and they need to make a profit to stay in business.  Their RTR freight cars have really filled some gaping holes, and I have many of them on my layout.

I'd also like to see the black nose versions, hopefully on the next runs.   As a Rapido retailer, I can say they do listen to the customers and the E units sell well, so additional runs may be in the planning stages.    Interesting to see them doing the Train of Tomorrow.   I also play with O scale and have the Golden Gate Depot set in UP colors.   It may not be Q, and most folks know how I love my Q dome cars, but it's nice to see it get some attention.
