This chart like many of my projects, is a 'journey' not a 'destination'.  Improvements come when things are put out into the sunlight knowing they are not perfect and without fear of criticisms.
I will add your comments below to my half-inch thick project file and hold it for a while, hoping others may have more information to offer and I can put them all together at once.

Sometime in 2025 BRHS members will be able to link back and forth between BRHS steam engine photos and the steam engine roster.  It will make it possible for us to put together the information about many of the hundreds of steam locomotives into single place, verses having it being scatter across different photos and features on the BRHS web site.  You members reading this will be able to spot omissions and errors in the information and correct it on the spot.   Cool... Yes?

Reminder: This information is here because some of your fellow BRHS worked hard to gather it and put it here.  Don't forget to thank them.

Jack - THANKS for doing this.  Taking a quick look, with the 4-8-4s, there were three classes:  O-5, O-5A and O-5B (oil burners).
 
The Class S locomotives were split between Pacific and Hudson types.  Class and sub-class S-1 to S-3 were Pacifics while Class and sub-class S-4 were Hudsons.  
 
Then, with the Class L-1 0-10-0s, I don't quite know if you'd call them "Switcher" as they were designed as heavy pushers and, later, used as branch line coal mine locomotives in Wyoming.  Hol may have an opinion on just what to call them.

If you visit the BRHS photo feature and browse the steam locomotives you will see that the titles below the photos are undergoing a change. They are all being changed to the syntax seen
in the example below. Location and dates are added were available.  The location and dates are not included for search results at this time, but are included for Category and Album browsing when choosing steam locomotives. Cool... Yes?
 
BTW, the comma after the engine number is very important as it allows for the reading of this title with a program that will enable connecting the roster data to these photos. In other words, please don't edit them out.  Thanks! If you visit a steam locomotive page that has not yet be revised to this syntax, I invite you to edit this title change. Don't forget the comma.
