I hope this is relative to the issue.  I worked for Milwaukee and Union Pacific in Kent Washington in the 1970's as a telegrapher and clerk.  Among some of the industries we had in our Andover Industrial Park were warehouses for GE, Westinghouse, and a couple other major appliance dealers (the names have slipped from my memory).  As an example, the GE warehouse would receive carloads of appliances that they unloaded and stored in their warehouse for further local drayage to various Seattle/Tacoma appliance dealers.  The carloads came out of Clearfield UT Freeport Center (originally built in 1942 as the Clearfield Naval Supply Depot, which was decommissioned in 1962.) This was a gigantic warehousing district that the US used during WW2 and afterwards was turned into a stop point for large trains or various products that came mostly from Eastern and Midwest manufacturing plants.  The entire operation generated entire trainloads of 50 foot UP box cars with damage control devices.  The outbound shipments would be billed to individual stations on "stop charge bills".  The railroad chose certain cities to receive the master billing that listed all the places where the individual cars were dropped off and station doing the accounting would then add a stop charge of $25.00 for the cars billed to there agency and the stop bills were then sent to the regional accounting departments that collected all stop charges and master bill of lading.

We would usually get around 50-60 cars over the weekend following the Friday that the train loads were dispatched to the various locations.  Our switch crews (for GE) would spot 8 cars over the weekend (4x4) for Monday unloading.  GE and Westinghouse were guaranteed 2 switches each per day until their car arrivals were cleaned out.  The cars were then sent back to Clearfield for reloading and the cycle begun again.

I hope this adds to the previous information regarding carload shipping.  Some stations might get only 1 or 2 cars based on their overall area needs.
