Here's a question for our Peoria, IL, area railroad historians. In November 1964, Peabody Coal sold their Midland Electric ex-M&StL 0-6-0's to Northwestern Steel & Wire in Sterling, IL, for scrapping. Does anyone know if the 0-6-0's were routed to Sterling over the M&StL by then owned by the CNW, or were they routed over the Q via Peoria - Galesburg - Denrock - Agnew - Sterling?
The M&StL interchanged with Midland Electric at Trivoli, IL. I do not know if or if not the Q directly interchanged, or if cars were handed off in Peoria to the M&StL. Two images of Midland Electric Nos. 80 and 81 have recently surfaced on the Internet showing them both sitting in the steel mill yard waiting to be scrapped. Any additional information or clarification will be welcomed - Louis
