Leo, I don't remember if it was determined how the cars from Kable got down to CUS prior to the Oregon Turn. I'd be interested to know for sure. Looking at my September 24, 1950 Employee timetable. there is a Wayfreight running daily, except Sunday from Eola to Oregon, and back again. This is the Oregon Turn. My understanding is it worked on the westbound run, except for Rochelle, where it just did set-outs and pick-ups. It waited at Oregon for Wayfreight #46 to deliver the cars picked up from Kable and took only these cars from Kable back to Aurora, without doing any work, to drop them before tying up in Eola. Other cars from Mt Morris and Oregon would wait for the next eastbound working freight. If the traffic prior to the Oregon Turn being put on was handled by a passenger train, a good candidate would be Train #52 In the December1947 Timetable, #52 had a dinner stop in Savanna at 4:30 pm and was due in Chicago at 8:35 pm. It made every stop during it's route and could pick up cars from Kable at Oregon. One of the Archives documents printed was the Train-off study done to try to kill Trains #45/52 in 1951. Though they wanted to kill it due to very low ridership, they couldn't move some of it's responsibilities like dropping cars off at Oregon for Kable to trains like the Blackhawk. It was an interesting study. If I have any of this wrong, I welcome corrections. I'm trying to better understand how this service was handled. Rich G.

Rich and Bob, Refresh my memory, did we ever resolve which eastbound passenger train handled the Kable printed material direct from Oregon until it was taken off ? That’s when the Oregon Turn wayfreight was put on and a number of “jeeps” were outfitted for freight service. Vaguely I’m starting to remember Bill Schultz may have answered this some time back. Also an interesting sidebar to this service. The Kable material cars went on the back of one of the two night Dinkies that departed Aurora around 5 or 7 ish. These also handled the modified baggage/wheel car returning turned wheel sets from the Aurora shops. Don’t think I’ve ever seen a picture of one these consists.
