    I have strong (though
      distant) memories of taking the Burlington from Council Bluffs to
      Kansas City and back many times, including an image (oh, how I
      wish I had photographed it) of the passenger railcar in which I
      was riding stopping right on top of the east-west track, with the
      headlight of another train directly out my window on that
      east-west track.  No doubt everyone else here knows exactly how
      far away that other train had to stop, but it sure was
      emotion-provoking to me!  That would have been late 50s /early
      60s, if that helps pinpoint when the tracks were removed.
