Rupert,
Home now and have my references. A Quad City Times article from April 1989 indicates that the trio who owned the MTZ were considering the name “Aunt Polly” for the 500. A Chicago Tribune article from May 13, 1990, indicates no name had yet been applied. A Chicago Tribune article from May 6, 1997, says, “A fifth car, added to accommodate more passengers, remained nameless until five years ago, [1992] when Lorenzini met the late Albert Dean, who designed the Zephyr. Lorenzini said he christened the car after the engineer’s wife, “a real sweetheart,” Effie Dean.”

Does anyone know when dinette-chair car #500 (ex-Pioneer Zephyr) was renamed Effie Dean. Was it when the Mark Twain Zephyr went to Wisconsin Great Northern?
Thanks
