Also deeply saddened to read this.
Charlie was the consummate professional. I learned about him via Kato enterprises and the demonstrative work he did with model development, both then and after. And particularly N Scale. His expertise spanned the globe!

Whilst I was a nobody, he replied and helped with information and often photographs on various groups for nearly twenty years I was present, while my CBQ associated interests lay with the D&RGW. Didn't matter to Charlie, he helped everyone it seems.
His death is a terrible loss to the modelling commuunity in so many ways.

I was deeply saddened to read that Charlie had died. I knew that he had some health issues but this news was still a shock.

We have been pen friends for many years e-mailing each other; we met up at the Rock Island Meet in about 2014 and again when he visited New Zealand with his wife. We shared an interest in early freight equipment, we researched the first dynamometer and the first motor car together and, more recently, we found material on the Chicago to Aurora line for the book he was writing.

I will greatly miss our exchanges and friendship.
