Thread-topic: [BRHSlist] [CBQ] BRHS web site now has a search tool for 'Q' businesses and industries
Jack,

I think that is a very pragmatic approach.  While I
may not contribute as much as those who worked for the Q or grew up along her, I feel the little I can will still provide value added.

Thanks

Ricky

I agree and I will/am working on that. As for 'editable' by members', we have embraced that concept everywhere on the BRHS site where ever possible. What is under consideration now is to have the industry information available on both the Members Only and the public side, but editable on the Members Only side, with a log that records 'who' made changes.

How does that sound to everyone?  Comments and suggestions are encouraged!

Jack,

I think it would be nice to add some additional fields like address, commodities shipped/received and car types, that last two are similar to the Ops Sig database.

If it could be editable by members, that could relieve some work on you and others. It would have to be self-policing/vetting but o personally believe it would not create too many issues.

My apologies to you for loosing you as the source of this file. I will blame old age. (I'm over 40) Your reference of about two years ago seems correct to my memory.  I had some extra time and figured that I could fashion a search feature with this data in a couple of days, without too much sweat, and so I put this site together.

The attachment you sent me (off list) with additional info is very nice. I certainly envisioned that more details would be great to have.  I also did not remember the industry listings located on the public side of the BRHS web site, which also have more data then the one that I announced below.

The question I am now facing is what should be done to benefit the BRHS members in the way of consolidation of these different sources that have different data elements in them, and where to locate it, and what tools to offer uses to access them.  Any suggestions?

Rick,

Some of it is. I did a lot of contributing to the NMRA Operations Sig database when Bill Jewett got it started at least 20 years ago. For those unaware of it, you can access it here: <https://www.opsig.org/Resources/IndustryDB>.

I sent Jack a lot of this about 2 years ago for the web site. This is from my own personal sources, the Op Sig database,  and the railroad industry guides that are sold by Ted Schnepf. For Q modelers with operating layouts, the Chicago Industry Guides Ted sells are essential.

I should note for those not purchasing offerings from the BRHS Archives, the recently offered 1955 reports on the Chicago-Omaha, Omaha-Denver and Denver-Billings lines have industry information. This is especially true for the Denver-Billings line report.

Another good source for late 1960's modelers are the Car Assignment lists being offered by BRHS Archives. A 1968 version has already been offered. I have recently scanned a CB&Q January 1970 special car assignment report to be offered by the Archives in the near future.

For example, did you know the whole series of 50 whale belly covered hoppers that the Q purchased in 1967 from ACF were assigned to Dundee Cement near Clarksville MO? Dave Lotz offers HO resin models via Q Connection. This is the type of information offered in these documents.

Jack,

Outstanding! Would it have been off the NMRA Ops Sig Group by any chance?
