These started to be used in the late 1960's and the CB&Q even purchased five of these from US Railway Equipment Company in February 1969, CB&Q 83700-83704, delivered in pre-merger green and according to the CB&Q Color Guide, they were assigned to Youngstown Sheet & Tube in East Chicago. Red Caboose made an excellent model of this car. My questions have to do with where these cars ran to and other coil cars that might have appeared on the Q.The release of PRR G41A coil cars by Tangent makes me more interested in this than ever. Has anyone seen photos or reports of coil steel cars moving on the Q to Mpls/StP? I know a lot of steel moved in covered gondolas per my wheel reports, but I have no true coiled steel cars. The closest is NYC 481375 which is a flat car converted for coil steel service with troughs and hoods (see http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/nyc/nyc481312alr.jpg). That car was loaded and headed to A.B. McMahan Company via the Minnesota Transfer. So clearly coil steel was headed to Mpls/StP for customers there. Gerald replied that he had spotted three or four of the green Q coild cars at Caterpillar in Peoria and was told they were assigned to Caterpillar. Can anyone confirm this? Also still looking for recollections of true coil steel cars on the Q to Mpls/StP. -- Tom Mack Cincinnati, OH _._,_._,_ Groups.io Links: You receive all messages sent to this group.
