The C&S passenger and freight car shops at 7th St. in Denver were closed in the early 1930s and work transferred to CB&Q shops at Aurora, Ill., and Havelock (Lincoln), Neb., respectively. The C&S was left with no place to paint cars except on the 7th St. rip
track, and occasionally a freight car would be completely repainted there using CB&Q standard mineral red. As to matching that color for modeling purposes, I'll leave that to the modelers in the group to answer. But back when I was still modeling, Floquil
boxcar red was a dead-on match to fresh Q mineral red.

Any suggestions for paint to replecate C&S box car red of the 1940- 1950 period?
I am about to build a stack of HO models for my 1951 Joint Line (Colorado) layout.
Was the C&S red different from the paint used by the CB&Q?
Photos seem to indicate that the C&S paint work weathers from a mid red to darker shades over time.
