Russ:
I authored both the Burlington Bulletin articles you mention, and in the nearly 40 years since the first one appeared back in 1983 no further information has turned up that would shed any light on the ultimate fate of the first two H&StJ RPO cars. All
I can offer is that neither of them was still around in revenue service when the Burlington adopted a consolidated numbering system in 1904 for all its constituent lines. The oldest H&StJ passenger cars on the roster at that time were built in the mid-1880s.
So it's likely that when the first two RPO cars no longer suited the needs of railway mail service, they were converted into other uses -- most likely baggage cars and perhaps later company service cars -- and then simply scrapped when they wore out, their
historical significance lost over the passage of time. The image from the 1929 brochure (Scan attached), even if it is what it claims to be, shows what the car(s) might have looked like had they survived into the 20th Century, with new more
modern roof and no end platforms. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Dave-could you post this on the Burlington Bulletin Board? Its obviously very historic and I am sure there will be answers to Quimby's Question.
Thank you
Does anybody know what happened to the original Hannibal & St. Joseph Railroad Mail Car #1 (or its sister car)?
This is considered by many as the first purpose built RPO car.
I saw the (CB&Q) replica in the Patee House Museum in St. Joe in July.
After looking through Burlington Route Historical Society (BRHS) Burlington Bulletins Nos. 8 and 45, and looking on the internet, I can't find an answer to this question.
I'm writing an article for the Casey Jones Unit (trains on stamps) of the American Topical Association.
Any help or information will be greatly appreciated.
