As an extra clerk in St Joe in the 1960’s I worked as a reconsigning clerk several times. Grain and lumber kept at least a half dozen of us busy re-billing cars that were sometimes resold multiple times in route. I was amazed at all this shuffling and still don’t understand how this could have been cost effective.
