A bristle from a paint brush works too. I have to replace one and I am planning on thin brass or phosphor bronze wire so I can use it to mount as well.

Here is a roof shot of two units with both versions of the horns. It is indeed a cable from the base of the horn to the front of the roof.  This was taken from the 23rd Street viaduct in Denver. That was my favorite perch for detail shots back in the late 1970s and early 80s. Now even the viaduct has been gentrified and such shots are next to impossible to achieve.   Jim Sandrin.

Details Associates makes a base for a whip type radio antenna.  SP used this type as well.  There may be other companies that have a whip antenna base as well.  Since it would be very hard to verify exactly what the CB&Q base looks like I'd almost be tempted to use a bit of spare plastic and carve and sand my own base.

The Details Associates part does not supply an antenna for the base.  I suppose one could use extremely thin monofilament fishing line that was stiffened or wire.  I read once in a detailing article a modeler using a whisker from the family cat!  Obviously he stressed don't pull one out of the cat's whiskers but wait until you find one while sweeping the floor!  I guess you could try to convince Muffy to give you one but I have a hard time convincing my two Siameses to do anything they don't already want to do!

That's it, Michael. In all the photos I have you can't see that antenna (which is obviously very thin)....does anyone know if one of the detail part makers manufacturers the correct antenna BASE?
Thanks so much for the help. Have a bit of relocating/reworking to do!

Not sure if we're looking at the same thing, but I think the coax cable for the roof mount radio antenna makes an upward curve adjacent to the air horn.

Evening all:

Modeling a Q GP20, and of all the pics I've been able to see in books, there appears to be some sort of "line" beneath the single air horn on the cab. I don't have a good roof shot, so I'm "guessing at this....
What is this appliance, anyone? Is it an air line, or other? Hopefully I'm modeling it somewhat correctly. Thanks!!
