Double Deck stockcars could haul, sheep, hogs or even calves. However I understand the leased Mather 50’ cars in CBQ paint were used for shipping hogs to Tobin in Rochester NY. It looks like there are two doors which operate independently of each other, Hol
You could well be right! I’ve attached a photo of another Mather car and the overpainting certainly matches. Now we have to try and establish a correct date for the photo.
Rupert Gamlen Auckland NZ It looks to me like the CB&Q reporting marks and 50000 series number have been painted out and replaced by MSCX 822 when the cars were returned from lease, probably not long after the BN merger in 1970. It was apparently leased to the CB&Q, as evidenced by the Burlington Route herald towards the right hand end, while retaining the MSCX reporting marks. I presume that these were different cars to the 40’ lease cars 50000-50139 as they apparently bore NAHX marks when they were first received.
Does anyone know anything about this lease, number of cars, dates, etc.?
