Looking on-line, I see that the U.S. Postal Service was only established in July 1971. Would these badges have pre-dated it?

They used an earlier badge during the RRAdmin. Period and it was shaped like a bell. Will try to get a picture.
Yes it was worn by Railway Mail Service employees on the train. I have one with 32 on it.
Attached is an image of two badges from my collection. It is my understanding that they are Post Office Department and railroad badges for personnel handling U.S. Mail at principal terminal on
the railroad. Only authorized personnel were allowed the handle U.S. Mail.
There’s an interesting badge on eBay at
U.S.M BURLINGTON ROUTE 310 CONDUCTORS BADGE RAILROAD L@@K | eBay It’s triangular but with rounded points and sides, a Burlington Route herald in the middle with “U.S.M.” above it and “310” below. Anyone know anything about it?
